Earlier this week it looked as though there would be a new man in charge of Liverpool on Sunday with Hodgson seemingly departing imminently. As it is it will be a re-match of the earlier game this season which Man Utd won 3-2 thanks to a Berbatov hat-trick. Whether Hodgson can really save his job is another question, rumours have even suggested the owners didn’t want the new manager to potentially start with a loss.

There is no such worry for Ferguson, United are on top of the league with at least one game in hand over the other suitors for the title. He should also have the luxury of being able to pick from a nearly full squad, having confirmed that Rio, Rooney and Van Der Sar should all be available having been rested against Stoke, although the latter two were forced through injury.Ferguson has said that he expects Rooney to be available, while Kuszczak will be picked in favour of now available Lindegaard if the Dutchman doesn’t recover from the flu.

Meanwhile Liverpool’s only injury concern is Paul Konchesky who suffered a dead leg in the loss against Blackburn, Aurelio is set to deputise. Kuyt could be recalled from the bench, while Kyrgiakos looks set to make way for Agger.

As if beating Liverpool isn’t incentive enough, Man Utd have extra motivation in setting right their record in the F.A. Cup after the disastrous third round exit to Leeds last season. Van Der Sar has also suggested earlier in the season, this is the trophy he most wants to win – the only one he hasn’t picked up in his illustrious career. Alongside him from the first team Rio, Rooney, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Nani, Rafael and Berbatov have also still to win the cup.

History is on United’s side as well, you have to go back to 1977 to find the last time United went more than 5 years without winning the trophy, ending a run of 13 seasons without winning it. If that wasn’t enough, who did they beat in 1977?  Liverpool, 2-1.

Predicted line ups:

Man Utd: Van Der Sar, Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, Berbatov, Rooney
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Lucas, Meireles, Kuyt, Gerrard, Maxi, Torres

Prediction final score: 2-1 United.
