The full time score doesn’t quite reflect what happened at the Veltins-Arena on Tuesday evening; such was Man United’s dominance in Germany that Sir Alex Ferguson described it as one of the club’s best performances in Europe. Manuel Neuer, Schalke’s goalkeeper, time and again denied the red devils, but not even he could prevent Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney from finding the back of the net in the second half.

Manchester United left it late but they did grab the winner and all three points against a resilient Everton side. The Merseyside team time and again blocked Man United’s attempts and Tim Howard produced some great saves, but the red devils never gave up and eventually broke the deadlock to take themselves within seven points of a historical nineteenth title.

Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Premier League, but a ninth draw from 17 away games means that the difference between the leaders and their most-immediate rivals, who only play on Wednesday, is only of seven points, instead of the much-desired nine points.

Manchester United 2 - 0 Fulham

Two first half goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia proved sufficient for Manchester United to see off Fulham at Old Trafford. The red devils got the job done in the opening 45 minutes and controlled the game in the second half, ahead of the CL quarter final return leg and the FA Cup semi final next week.
