match reportRyan Giggs believes Manchester United's bright young things will learn lessons after they suffered their first defeat on tour.

Kansas City Wizards, fifth in Major Soccer League's Eastern Conference, were today still savouring a surprise victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Kei Kamara scored the winner in front of 52,424 fans at the Arrowhead Stadium - a record soccer attendance in mid-America.

Dimitar Berbatov pulled United level only a minute earlier from the penalty spot after Davvy Arnaud had opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Despite Jimmy Conrad being sent off for his challenge on the Bulgarian, the Wizards stayed resilient and achieved a notable victory.

It was United's first defeat on the tour after they had beaten both Celtic and Philadelphia Union.

Apart from Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov and the fit-again Nani, United manager Ferguson fielded an inexperienced team - and it showed at times.

Giggs said: "You learn something from every game you play when you are younger and you always try to take something from it even when you lose. Hopefully the young lads will be better for the experience.

"The big thing about pre-season is getting your fitness right but of course you want to play well and win your games. It might be a friendly but it's always disappointing when you lose.

"We didn't play well and the second goal was a killer after coming so quickly after we'd got ourselves back into the game and they went down to 10 men. We didn't recover from that."

Giggs added: "It was a good run-out for us. It's hard work in the heat especially when you're a goal down chasing the game but credit to the Wizards, they played well.

"It's always an experience when you're playing at a great stadium, in front of a good crowd against good opposition. "

The United party were due to link up with new striker Javier Hernandez in Houston ahead of the showpiece match against the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday.

Hernandez was given a holiday after playing for Mexico in the World Cup in South Africa, where he scored two goals.

Ferguson believes the club did well to secure Hernandez's signature before the tournament.

He said: "We are lucky in respect of Hernandez because we identified him before the World Cup started.

"If we had waited until the World Cup it would have cost us two to three times the money. So it was good work by the scouting department."

United wrap up their five-match tour on Friday when they face Hernandez's former club Chivas Guadalajara.

Ferguson added: "Our plan is to give him a bit of football in Houston because there is a lot of the Mexican population there.

"Then he will play for us in Mexico in the first half and them in the second half which I think is a nice thing."

Yeah I agree there is no real cause for concern. The backline was totally made up of youngsters who have not all played together before this match. Giving them game time together will put them in good stead for the future as there is a chance this backline could become the future United first team choice. :-)

There is no cause for concern really.. It is better for the youngsters to make these mistakes in pre-season and friendlies than in competitive games.. They will definitely learn from these situations and that's the whole point of making them play!
