Old Trafford Part 2

A Major Venue

These days Old Trafford is major venue for both England and Europe. Crucial fixtures are played in this stadium, including a semi-final of the FA Cup. Old Trafford was also the venue of one of the semi-finals of Euro 1996 and last year was home to the Champions Cup Final contested between Juventus and Ac Milan, in which the Diavoli Rossi (ironically compared as brothers to English Red Devils – Manchester United) won the contest 3-2 on penalties after a drabbing 0-0 stalemate after 120 minutes of play.

The Future Looks Bright

In long-term, Old Trafford will never stop getting bigger according to the Man United board, and are calculating that by 2008, Old Trafford will have an astounding capacity of 95,000 due to the expansions to the four corners and the building to two further tiers to the Main Grandstand. At the moment plans are taking place, for the expanding of the North-East and North-West corners to increase the capacity by a further 7,000 seats to make The Theatre of Dreams a huge 75,000 all seated stadium. Unfortunately, the expanding of the Main Grandstand is proving to be difficult because of the lack of space and the purchase of the railway station and 50 houses nearby which would come at great expense.

Old Trafford – Man United’s Home For Ever

Nowadays, the moving of stadiums has become very common like for example the moving of Liverpool to Stanley Park in 2005 and the move to Ashburton Grove from Highbury involving Arsenal so to extend the capacity of their home ground. But this is not the case with Manchester United and their wonderful relationship with Old Trafford. The arena will always be home to the Red Devils unless something disastrous will happen, and it is a suitable home to the world’s most famous team – non other than MANCHESTER UNITED!

I am sure that huge feast will be held through-out Manchester in 2009 to inaugurate the beauty of 100 years of living for Old Trafford. May The Theatre of Dreams live long and prosper!!
