Opposition Opinion: vs Liverpool

Liverpool fan Ash has answered some of your questions ahead of the Sunday showdown. To see what the scouser says click read more!

FMU: Who's been your stand out performer(s) so far this season?

Ash:It is hard at this stage to pick a stand-out performer really. The usual suspects spring to mind, and despite his error against Arsenal, Reina has been superb for Liverpool. I think it is too soon to pick a stand-out performer so far!

FMU: Which player should we be most wary of on Sunday?

Ash: I think United should be wary of Torres, Gerrard or Cole on Sunday. Having Cole back is a boost as we can play him off Torres and move Gerrard deeper, alonside Meireles in the middle of the park, and that's where we'll need to get hold of the game. Torres has a good record against United, so he could be the man once again!

FMU: Do you think Liverpool can finish in the top 4 this season?

Ash: I genuinely do think Liverpool can finish in the top 4. We have had a tough start against Arsenal, Man City and Birmingham, all top 8 clubs, whereas people are getting excited about Chelsea, and they have had Wigan, West Brom, Stoke and West Ham - All bottom 8 clubs! We were 30 seconds away from beating Arsenal (with 10 men) and would be 4th now if we'd held on. I don't think we'll turn over many stones, but I do believe Man City, Spurs and Liverpool will be quite evenly matched this season!

FMU: What do you make of Roy Hodgson so far? Was he your preferred choice?

Ash: I like Hodgson, he is a decent, honest manager who has a wealth of experience. Yes, people would point and ask why Liverpool haven't got a man like a Hiddink or Mourinho, and that we are struggling so had to turn to Hodgson, but he is just the sort of man we needed after the dressing room seemed a bit divided under Rafa. I am happy to give him a chance.

FMU: What are your thoughts about the tranfers that have taken place at Liverpool during the transfer season?

Ash: I think our work in the transfer market has been very good! Last season, our bench had the likes of El Zhar, Spearing, Nemeth and co. This season, I think our first XI is stronger and our bench now has a bit more quality. Joe Cole was a great bit of business, as it also allows Gerrard to move back in to midfield and fill the void left by Alonso a couple of years ago. On paper, I think our best XI looks strong:

Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Konchesky, Kuyt, Gerrard, Meireles, Jovanovic, Cole, Torres

With: Babel, Ngog, Poulsen, Skrtel, Aurelio, Jones, Maxi and Lucas to come off the bench!

FMU: How do you think United will fare in the league this season?

Ash: United will always be there or thereabouts! However, it is good to see Berbatov start the season well as Rooney carried a lot of weight last season. This season has seen a quieter Rooney, so other players need to step up to the mark. Hernandez looks useful, but SAF seems reluctant to play him that often... Hopefully he'll stay on the bench on Sunday!

FMU: Which would be more painful to see United overtaking your league or European cup record?

Ash: United winning 19 would be the hardest thing to take! We have been the most successful club in England for such a long time, to lose it to United, when it seemed impossible about 15 years ago, would be a bitter pill to swallow... Let's hope Chelsea can win it again!! ha ha!

FMU: How do you feel to be playing in the Europa league, what are your aims in the competition?

Ash: The Europa league should be a platform for the likes of Suso, Pacheco, Eccleston, Ngog and Kelly to get some first team action and really show what they can do! I would not be too disappointed if we went out early, although it would be funny to see United and Spurs drop in there by finishing 3rd in their Champions League groups!! ha ha!!

FMU: What is your prediction for the game?

Ash: My prediction for the game is a tight game, with a late equilliser by Cole and a 1-1 draw...
I also predict that Vidic may actually manage to stay on the pitch for a change!!

Good luck for the rest of the season (except when you play us!!)
