Opposition Opinion - Portsmouth perspective

Portsmouth OpinionBreaking from the alphabetical order we have been bringing you these "Opposition Opinion's" we thought it would be sensible to bring you the views of a Pompey fan ahead of our Shield Showdown tomorrow.

FMU: How do you rate your last season?

Naz: Last season was amazing, Winning the F.A cup and finishing in the top ten of the Premiership is a real
achievement for a small club like pompey! Hopefully this year we can push on further, i'm looking forward to european football and hopefully we can do well in the league and qualify for the uefa cup via the league. Another decent domestic cup run would be nice aswell!

FMU: Who was your star player?

Naz: Obviously players like David James and Sol Campbell were vital for us last year. I think most Pompey fans would agree that without the experience of these two players in particular, there is no way we would have gone as far in the F.A Cup. Other than these two outstanding players i think Benjani's early goals were very influential in giving us a flying start, as were Defoe's Premiership goals after he arrived in January.

Glen Johnson

 Glen Johnson

 31 appearences

 14 cleansheets

 4 assists

 1 goal

For me there were two other players which really stood out last season, Sylvain Distin and Glen Johnson were fantastic in all competitions. Distin was sometimes in the shadow of Sol Campbell but i feel he had as good, if not a better season than Sol. Glen Johnson also had a cracking season, which has been noticed by Capello considering he has been included in recent England squads. As an attacking right back Glen Johnson seems to be the perfect replacementfor Gary Neville, and considering Wes Browns recent England performances it is about time he was given an opportunity to start for England!

FMU: What was your view on our own season?

Naz: It was a normal Man United season in my opinion, all conquering, you played some great football with Ronaldo being dominant in United winning both the Premiership and the Champions league. I thought Anderson looked a class player when he was involved and I look forward to seeing him playing more this season. It was just a shame for United fans that the players couldn't have a perfect season and win the Treble....but Nevermind, United's players got dominated by Diarra and Muntari in the quarter final of the F.A Cup and it wasn't to be.

4. Which player impressed you most from United?

Naz: Obviously Ronaldo was superb last season. and that would be a clear decision for United player of the season, but as i have already mentioned Anderson looked a great player, loads of pace and power and really comfortable on the ball too, so for me it would have to be him that impressed me the most.

5. How do you see this season going?

Naz: I have a feeling this season will be similar to the last. I cant see the top four being broken, and i predict that United will yet again win the leaguei think Liverpool will have a good season this year and i would not be surprised if they finish second. Spurs look like they could do much better than they did last season, Modric looks a class player but Spurs need to keep hold of Berbatov if they are to push for a uefa cup spot. Having watched the Arsenal
kids pre season i fully expect them to pick up the league cup this year, providing Wenger gives them the chance again. From a Pompey view point i would love it if we could win the F.A Cup again, but i feel the chances of that happening are small. A good European campaign would be just as beneficial  to us as it might lure even more quality players down to Fratton park.

Naz's Predictions
Premiership Winners - Man United
F.A Cup winners - Pompey (My Heart is overruling my head on this one!)
League Cup - Arsenal
Champions League - Man United
Uefa cup - Spurs or Pompey

6. Is there any player you would like to see join or leave your club and why?

Naz: I was Gutted to see Muntari leave for Inter Milan Recently, he had a superb season for us and really looked happy playing against the 'big four'. I Hope we don't lose any other players however i feel Redknapp may need to sell a couple of players to bring in new blood. It would not surprise me to see Sean Davis, Richard Hughes or Dave Nugent go and i expect these are the three players that might be let go in order to bid for Shaun Wright-philips. I think
we could do with another centre-back, as i fear Linvoy Primus' time as a first team possibility may be running out.

Many thanks to Naz
