Our second new columnist Richard has written his first article on Cristiano Ronaldo and the impact he's had this season

I would like to comment on the amazing impact Cristiano Ronaldo has had on Manchester United not just this season but since he joined us back in 2003. It is amazing to think how in 4 years he has only secured 34 goals to his name and the amount of times he has hit the woodwork, over 50. If the nets had been made bigger Ronaldo would surely have over 80 goals for Manchester United. Ronaldo has dazzled us this season with his trickery and his shooting powers. The most impressive thing for me is how he hits a free-kick. When they don’t work it looks terrible but when it does it looks very effective. I remember one against Fulham last year and the one he scored against the Europe XI this year. Although if it hadn’t been for a dazzling performance in a pre-season friendly against United in 2003 Ronaldo may never have been a red. Ferguson saw his talent straight away and at just £12m was a bargain. He could have been at Liverpool but at 16 Gerard Houllier turned him down claiming he was too young for the Premiership, his loss. Ronaldo has been key to United this year and his link-up with Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes in midfield had re-united the flair left by Beckham, Scholes, Keane and Giggs. His link-up play with Rooney is simply astonishing and without him I dread to think how far Chelsea could be ahead of us this seasom.
