Manchester United moved one step closer to defending the title as they beat Middlesbrough 4-1. A double from Ronaldo and a scorcher from Tevez had set United up comfortably before Dean Ashton pulled it back to 3-1 with an overhead kick. Then minutes before half time Nani got sent off for a headbutt on Neil. This failed to deter a determined United side and went out and comfortably saw off West Ham with another goal in the second half.
A Paul Scholes rocket was enough to send United through to the Champions League final for the first time since 1999 and 50 years since the Munich disaster. Despite no Rooney or Vidic, United put in a solid performance to put Barcelona out.
Manchester United will consider themselves very unfortunate that they left Stamford Bridge with no points after they were denied a stone-wall penalty and then had a very dubious penalty awarded against them in the 86th minute of the match.
United and Barcelona failed to live up to the talk before the game as the match petered out into a bore 0-0 draw. Ronaldo missed a penalty while both sides could have had a couple more penalties.
