For the third Man Utd - Liverpool derby in a row United were undone by slack defending and Vidic was again sent off. Manchester United failed to get to grips with the Reds and when Torres shrugged off Ferdinand's challenge and fired the ball past Van Der Sar it gave Liverpool a justifiable lead.

Having scored his first United goal the previous weekend, Valencia seems to have found his scoring boots. The Ecuadorian winger gave United the win with a late strike to make it 3 wins out of 3 and needing only 1 more point to secure qualifcation.

It was the experienced duo of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs that stole the show to put Man Utd top on goal difference. After a a mixed performance from Nani in the first half Giggs was sent on at nearly the hour mark. The effect was there for all to see, United score 2 goals and Giggs gets 2 assists. Had he put away a brilliant chance created by Scholes it would have capped off a marvelous performance by both veterans.
